It's been a while!
Happy (late) Valentine's Day!(:
So today I wanted to tell you all about my day. Before you blow this post off because you hate Valentine's Day or something like that, I just want to share my experience from yesterday. Because I did something most people don't do. I gave people I didn't even know happiness yesterday.
Interested now?
Good, because my story is heart-wrenching.
As most of my readers know, I am a part of my school's Choir. I sing second soprano, but I'm thinking about moving up to first next year. Beside the point. My Choir does a fundraiser every Valentine's called "Singing Valentine's". They're relatively cheap, $15 dollars for a rose/candy and have your special someone serenaded by the choir. Most people think it's embarrassing. Some of them love it.
This is my first year of being apart of this. This year, we split up into groups and it took about four hours to deliver all of them. We spent all of first hour, lunch, fifth hour, and an hour and a half after school driving around to various places, singing "You Are My Sunshine" and "Skinnamarink" to people.
The ones that stuck with me? The hospital and the nursing home.
I'll start with the hospital. This one was unexpected. We had sang to one of the choir members Grandmother, and the lady in the room next to her heard us, and wanted us to sing to her. We did all of this woman's for free, she was an unexpected stop. We started singing "Skinnamarink", and the look on her face almost shocked me. She just sat there, with her eyes closed, listening to the music. She looked almost sad. She looked so focused on the words, on the melody, like not listening would kill her. She remained this way through "You Are My Sunshine" and "Happy Birthday" (It was her birthday). She never moved, kept her head bowed, hands clasped, and eyes closed. She smiled a little, but not much. After we had left, my choir instructor explained. Even though for her, it was Valentine's Day and her birthday, it was also the anniversary of her husbands death.
She was wiping tears away when we left.
I only hope we at least made her day a little brighter.
The next was a woman in a wheel chair in the nursing home. She was so surprised. We handed her her rose and card, and began singing and she just lost it. Crying, thank you's. She was ecstatic about it, and as we walked out was telling us to come back and visit and stay a week.
She loved it.
We had one lady burst into hysterics, one cry, one look completely confused, and a few others just looked bored. One of the girls on my basketball team was so embarrassed.
It was the best experience of my life.
Ya know, I didn't spend most of my day with my boyfriend.I gave up most of my day for other people. And I don't regret on second of it. He got me this:
Which I found in my locker after returning from singing first hour. Fortunately, my second hour class is with him, so I got to see him a little bit. And then spent about another hour and a half last night at the dance with him.
Oh, and a late picture for Heather (JesusChick) of us--

| Yes, he has a lip ring. No, I don't like it. Still trying to convince him to take it out. Him getting it stuck in my hair is getting annoying -__- :P (: |
Pretty soon, I'll have a Rue21 haul up and a Debs haul.
Much Love!(:
-Bree♥

Oh wow, I think you truly understand what the holiday is all about: sharing love. From the sounds of it, you were able to do just that :)
