Hey! So, I have something I want to vent about on here, and I would appreciate some of your opinions on this.
First- This one irritates me so much. One of my closest friends was talking to me the other night, and she told me she was switching schools this next year. The one we go to is small, barely (if) 100 kids in it. Three seasonal sports (basketball, archery, and softball/baseball). The school she is going to go to is bigger, more sports, more people, so I can understand why, though I don't understand why she would want to switch on her last year at our school (it's a KG-8th school, we'll be in 8th) Anyways, she brought up the subject of how she was going to run track. After this, she also mentioned she'd have to diet. What??.... Guys, this girl doesn't have an ounce of fat on her! Puzzled, I said awesome to the track part (always wanted to try it...maybe I will in high school) but I asked why she had to diet? The first part was understandable, to get more energy. But the second? "And apparently I weigh a lot."
WHAT?!?!
I have to say that's what ran through my head. How do you weigh a lot?! She's skinnier than I am! When she told me her weight though, she weighs about 10 pounds more than I do. She runs a lot more than I do, so I'm gonna say it's probably leg muscles. But even with that, for her height? She'd be underweight on her BMI. This girl it T-A-L-L.
What do you guys think? I'd love your opinions. There may be something I'm overlooking? Thanks!
Much love,
~Bree<3
I think it's sad that so many young girls suffer from body image issues nowadays. What I would suggest is to see if she is actually serious about losing 10 pounds and if she is , the best thing to do would be to tell her parents. She mIght get mad about it at first, but the truth is, if she is already underweight and she wants to lose even more weight, than it could be a deeper problem and she could be destroying her body. Before you talk to her parents you could talk to your's or another adult you trust. The only other thing to do is pray for her and hope she isn't serious about losing weight. (if you notice her eating less and losing significant weight fast it could be serious. )
ReplyDeletedefinitely tell her she shouldn't diet. it can be unhealthy at her age especially if she develops an eating disorder. Remember to tell her that muscle weighs more than fat, so she may think she's overweight, but it's just muscle. She doesn't need to change!

I would talk to your mom or dad.... she might have some health issues that could be hurting her....
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame to have to have your friend move school. :(

Hi Bree, just wanted to thanks for following my bloggity- it's much appreciated :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately your friend's situation is rampant in today's day and age. I never had such self-deprecating thoughts about my weight. But then again I'm about 5 feet and petite. I never loved my body, to be honest. But I tend to stay away from scales and BMI's and all that jazz because the most important measurement is how you feel.
